Dear CFOA Member:
At our February Board of Directors meeting it was voted on to support several Marine related causes. Among these include:
3 Edgewood Children’s Ranch Fishing Tournament
4. CCA
5. Mote Marine
This is an extremely ambitious slate in a year that is also dedicated to rebuilding our financial base. In the past we have provided the Dolphin project with up to $2000 in annual funding. This program is at a crossroads and is in need of our help once again. The program administrator, Don Hammond has proven his research to be a valuable tool in understanding and protecting this valuable fishery and as all of you know there is nothing more exciting and colorful as a large Dolphin attacking a trolling spread or just swimming up to the side of the boat during a day of bottom fishing.
The Board has voted to issue a CLUB Challenge and to match ALL member donations up to $2500 for a $5000 total, which will then be presented to the Dolphin Research Program, hopefully a surprise for Don Hammond when we schedule him later this year to do a presentation for the club. I would like to solicit your help in making a personal or corporate donation to the CFOA Marine Conservation Account. I will start if off by making a donation from T’S Me! Fishing Adventures. Together we can meet this goal and provide the project with much needed funding.
As well, I am issuing a personal challenge to each and every one of you to participate in the tagging project. It is extremely simple to do, will cost you nothing and more information can be found on Don’s website. I have had the pleasure of participating for the past several years and have watched at least one fish be recovered and then getting the data back from Don. As well, we recovered a tagged fish off of Port Canaveral last fall that had been tagged south of the Miami area and is being used to disprove the theory that Dolphin migrated south in the fall. You can order your supplies from his website or you will be able to obtain them when we schedule him to speak with the club. http://dolphintagging.homestead.com/index.html
Remember- a donation to the CFOA Marine Conservation Account is tax deductible because it is listed as a non profit organization. Please do your part and send a check today.
